F.O.A.D. Records and Italian hardcore punk. A lethal match that anyone who has been following us for a long time knows very well. Over the years, a large part of the most important names from the hardcore scene of the country where our label was born have been brought back to light through the kind of obsessive, painstaking work that has always been one of our trademarks. This month we return to that winning formula with a special twist: four releases spanning two very different eras – two coming straight from the legendary “Furious Years of Italian Hardcore 1981–1985”, and two from the ’90s, a decade that is often overlooked when talking about the Italian hardcore scene, but which spawned some absolute gems that deserve to be rediscovered and appreciated as they always should have been. Starting from the ’90s, we have a name that – despite having left a huge mark in Italy, especially in Milano city – still deserves a proper worldwide spotlight:SOTTOPRESSIONE. After months of feverish work, we are finally proud to offer new editions of their classic1996 S/T album, unavailable on vinyl for a very long time, and“È il momento”, compiling their EP, demo and compilation tracks. Until now this collection had only been available in its complete form on CD; this is the first time ever that it appears on vinyl. Going deeper into the past, straight into the early ’80s, we have something we have wanted to do properly for a long time:IMPACT / EU’S ARSEas asplit 12”. Originally released as a 7”, each side crammed almost ten minutes of music into a format that was never really meant to handle that kind of running time without serious sonic compromise. For this new edition we went back to the original 1/4” master reels and gave these recordings the space they always deserved: for the first time on 12” at 45 RPM, presented in full dynamic range, with the sound finally breathing at its maximum potential – raw, natural and powerful. A cornerstone of Italian hardcore heard as it should be. And last but definitely not least, a small but incredible punk treasure sitting right at the crossroads between the legacy of late-’70s punk and the fury of the first hardcore wave: Genova’sCRAPPING DOGSand their complete discography“I Will Spit On Your Grave”. Containing every surviving recording from 1981-1983, this is one of those bands whose teenage urgency, energy and originality immediately make you wonder “How the hell did I manage not to discover them until now?” Completely addictive stuff and unanimously recommended by the entire F.O.A.D. crew! The official audiophile reissue of one of the undisputed holy grails of early Italian hardcore!
Originally self-released by the bands in 1983 as a 7″ EP with a DIY xeroxed sleeve, this landmark recording captured the most furious, distorted and uncompromising spirit of the first Italian hardcore wave. Like countless DIY punk records of its era, the original EP was all about fitting as much music as possible onto a self-financed release. More than ten minutes were cut onto each side of a 7″, a bold choice that perfectly reflected the urgency of the time, while inevitably pushing the format beyond its ideal sonic limits. For this definitive reissue, the original 1/4″ analogue master reel has been meticulously transferred and restored, then mastered for a 12″ cut at 45 RPM. Freed from the constraints of the original format, these recordings finally reveal their full dynamic range. The closest you’ll ever get to hearing these recordings exactly as they exploded from the master tape in 1983! To preserve the authentic DIY spirit of the original release, the record comes housed in an old-school 6-panel fold-out sleeve faithfully recreating the artwork, packaging and atmosphere of the first pressing + additional outer jacket with die-cut stickers. Another long-lost gem of Italian hardcore punk from the legendary “Furious Years”, unearthed and brought back to light by your F.O.A.D. maniacs!!
Hailing from Genova, CRAPPING DOGS were active only between 1981 and 1983, but left behind a blazing legacy. Their sound fused the raw edge of late ’70s punk and new wave with the speed and intensity of first-wave hardcore drawing inspiration from bands such as Dead Kennedys, Circle Jerks, and Discharge, while forging a distinctly Italian identity alongside pioneers like Peggio Punx, Wrong Boys, Fall Out, and many more! This ultra-manic complete discography (27 TRACKS!) collects the band’s cult demotape, their tracks from the classic “Raptus: Negazione e Superamento” compilation LP, and as an incredible bonus, 4 previously unreleased early tracks sourced from a private tape that has remained unheard until now. The LP comes housed with a 24-page fanzine-style booklet, packed with extensive liner notes by two original band members, rare photos, flyers, fanzine excerpts, and a wealth of archival material.
