Here we are at our regular appointment with one of the thematic sections we like best at F.O.A.D. Records, from a country we worship and with which we have forged a strong collaborative bond that has lasted for years: JAPAN. By now, saying “a month of Japanese hardcore or metal on F.O.A.D.” is truly synonymous with tradition, and it ignites the fire of passion in many, ourselves at the top!  We have now lost count of the number of F.O.A.D. releases taken from the underground scene of this inexhaustible furnace of sonic wonders, perhaps even more than 100… And we’re here to add 5 more to the list!  Welcome to another F.O.A.D.  month dedicated entirely to hardcore punk from the Land of the Rising Sun.

The highlight is definitely the massive anthology collection by Hiroshima’s GUDON, featuring all their recordings (including material never before released on vinyl) from 1986 to 1990, the period with Happy on vocals.  Next up, also from Hiroshima, is the first-ever vinyl reissue of the extremely rare split tape between BRING FORTH and M.F.C., a true hidden gem of furious, fast HC, in the pure Japanese Tiger’s Den style. On the same wavelength of rage and speed you get the discography of GAKI & NAKED CHARGE from Tottori City. Flying further north, we head to cold Hokkaido for some total Metal/Punk obscurity for fans of Ghoul, MOBS, Gastunk, and G.I.S.M… the 1989-1990 demo collection from Sapporo’s HYENA. And last but not least, an all-star lineup band from Tokyo, EIEFITS, with their new album “Thrive”. Female-fronted energetic punk with a HC base, and Minoru of Lipcream fame on bass! HYENA “Shallow cunning – demos 1989-1990” LP  (F.O.A.D. 401)

Another hidden gem in the infinite galaxy of Hokkaido’s underground scene. Hailing from Sapporo City, HYENA delivered a perfect mix of metal and hardcore in true Japanese style (think Gastunk, Zouo, Ghoul, Poison, G.I.S.M.). This LP collects their two rare demotapes (1989-1990) prior to their full-length album “Kotetsu no inkaku”. Expect a firestorm of granite riffs, fiery solos and caustic vocals that blend into a thunderous roar of fury and violence! Includes booklet with rare photos, flyers and scans of the original tapes. GAKI / NAKED CHARGE LP  (F.O.A.D. 390)

Complete discography by Tottori City’s raging hardcore units GAKI and NAKED CHARGE… originally formed in 1994 as GAKI, the band started their thrashing aggression recording 3 songs (as GAKI) on the “Tottori City Hardcore” split 7″ with GAIZI, released in 1995 by the legendary, long running Japanese label MCR Company. They quickly changed their name to NAKED CHARGE and recorded a demotape and a split 7″ with VIOLENT CHARGE, their recording and live activity lasted from 1995 to 1998.  Sourced from the band’s masters for the most crushing sonic impact. One sided LP with silk screened art on B-side, OBI strip and 16 page booklet with rare photos, flyers and scans of the original releases.

LOS ANGELES GRINDCORE at its finest! A lethal mix of old school grindcore, crust and touches of death metal with inevitable references to TERRORIZER’s legendary album “World Downfall”. Fact is that about a third of the songs on Terrorizer’s “World Downfall” were actually material from NAUSEA, singer Oscar Garcia’s previous (and current) band. Formed in 1988 in Redwood City, California, Plutocracy are hands down one of the most iconic and unique names in West Coast powerviolence. Multi-vocals, angular riffing, neck-breaking tempo changes, rap inserts, noise grafts. All perfectly stitched together on a top tier grinding PowerViolence backbone. Recorded in 2010 and  originally released in a scarcely circulated pressing very sought after by collectors, “Off the Pigs” is the last studio effort from this legendary unit, a bloodcurdling scream of street life, anti-authoritarian mindset and unrest mentality. Plutocracy defy the strictest definitions, a one-of-a-kind band that is impossible to pigeonhole, standing in the same category as Spazz, Crom, Agents Of Satan and No Le$$. Welcome to a new series of F.O.A.D. releases, the first of 2026. Unfortunately, we had to skip a month and start again from here due to significant delays in delivery from the printing plant for Gore Beyond Necropsy and Sore Throat generated by Xmas congestion… but that’s the way it is and there’s not much we can do about it. The important thing is that you have received your orders and enjoyed our year-end noisy atrocities! To kick off 2026 in the best possible way, we thought we’d assault you right away with a tornado of sonic brutality of the most ballistic and ferocious kind… The theme for this month is pioneering Californian grindcore, with four releases by three titans in the genre: NAUSEA LA, PLUTOCRACY, and TERRORIZER LA.  For Oscar Garcia’s NAUSEA, we are pleased to announce the completion of two anthologies (both on vinyl and CD) that we have assembled over the course of more than 10 years of feverish work, reconstructing their non-album recordings from 1987-1992 and 1998-2006.  In addition to these, and staying within the same family, given the high demand we have decided to release the fifth reissue of a true F.O.A.D. classic, the TERRORIZER compilation “Before the Downfall” on double LP+CD, this time with purple artwork (are you collecting them all?). Believe it or not (we find it hard to believe ourselves!), we have just entered the 40th year of F.O.A.D., founded in 1986 in Turin as a xeroxed DIY fanzine by our friend Marco (RIP). The journey that has brought us to where we are today has been a real odyssey, with constant ups and downs, incredible highlights, and also a lot of suffering.  In Italy, it’s not easy to run a niche-underground label like this, because everyone does everything possible to slow you down and hinder you in the worst possible ways. But with stubborness, fighting spirit, and a lot of passion and love for what we do, here we are, not only celebrating our 40th anniversary, but also our 400th release! We apologize for the delay caused by the stupid Xmas rush, every year the same bullshit. Unfortunately, what should have been our December releases were only delivered a few days ago (January), so we had to rush like crazy to catch up and ship all your pre-orders. As always, thank you so much to those who continue to support us, believe in what we do, and appreciate the quality of our work. Without your constant encouragement and help, we would not have come this far.  So, to get straight to the point: GORE BEYOND NECROPSY “Raw, filthy & harsh!!!” Boxset (F.O.A.D. 400!), SORE THROAT “Disgrace to the corpse of Sid” gatefold LP, and SORE THROAT “Unhindered by talent” gatefold LP are finally out now.  All pre-orders have been shipped and tracking numbers updated. 

These deliveries will not be very fast because even though they are on their way, they are still suffering from delays accumulated in the senseless end-of-year postal traffic. It was expected that this would be a busy month but it has gone beyond all expectations… 4 highly acclaimed releases and their premiere at the Record Planet mega record fair in the Netherlands (one of the best editions in recent memory) made the first two weeks of this November 2025 insanely hectic in a positive way.  So for this introduction we’ll get straight to the point without rambling so much. DISCHARGE “Tomorrow belongs to us?” gatefold LP, STALAG 17 “Distruggi la tua vecchia mente!! Discografia 1982-1983” LP, LUNA / LA STRADA gatefold LP+7”, GRČ “Sloboda narodu” LP are all out NOW on F.O.A.D. Records. As you might have guessed the diehard versions of both DISCHARGE and LUNA / LA STRADA have been sold out in the blink of an eye, there a few left of the black vinyl editions but they’re going fast, so don’t sleep on it too much.

DISCHARGE “Tomorrow belongs to us?” gatefold LP (F.O.A.D. 397)

FOR THE FIRST TIME ON VINYL! February 1982, just three months after the release of the seminal “Never again” EP and less than two months after their first ever gigs outside of the UK in Italy and Yugoslavia, DISCHARGE returned to play one of their legendary headline gigs at London’s infamous 100 Club on Oxford Street. The gig, captured here was recorded before the studio session for their devastating debut album, and sees them hammer through nearly twenty bone breaking assaults of maximum possible musical expression with startling ferocity; a set that was culled solely from their first five releases, “Realities of war”, “Fight back”, “Decontrol”, “Why” and “Never again”!
One of the very last times that some of these songs would be played live ever, and by the “classic” line up of Bones, Rainy, Cal and Garry to a howling mob of insane youth – “Tomorrow belongs to us?” is a perfect snapshot in time of the transitionary period between the band’s early records and their next musical step with the “Hear nothing…” LP. Issued with unique gatefold sleeve artwork based solely upon original period designs reflecting the era and the DIY merchandise aesthetic that they self-produced, and a 32 page booklet filled with early fanzine interviews, rare flyers, and photos, this once again proves why DISCHARGE are considered the most influential hardcore punk band of all time!

Another hidden gem of raging Italian punk straight from the legendary “furious years of Italian hardcore”! Hailing from Bologna, formed in 1981 in the same scene that also gave rise to Nabat and Raf Punk – STALAG 17, in their short existence were delivering no frills hardcore with the unmatchable formula of that era that consists of short, fast, angry songs and a highly politicized attitude…  This complete discography, fully supervised by the band, compiles the following works:

LUNA / LA STRADA “Hokej Klub Virginitas” gatefold LP+7″ (F.O.A.D. 394)

Official reissue of this iconic Yugoslavian tape, appearing for the first time on vinyl! There are cult Balkan bands and there is LUNA. Emerged from the arty punk and post punk scene in Novi Sad in the late 70s, with some of the most prominent musicians from other big bands of the time (such as the young guitarist from Pekinška Patka, Bale, or the drummer from the mega-influential new wave YU rock band Ekatarina Velika and drum innovator Firchie) and with Jasmina on synth and Slobodan Tišma, one of the most influential poets/writers in the Balkans. They were active for a very short period and played probably less than 30 gigs, but they did in Yugoslavia what JOY DIVISION did globally. Their only album, “Nestvarne stvari”, was released posthumously in 1984 in a limited edition, and the cassette compilation “Hokej Klub Virginitas” was released in 1988 in only 100 copies, collecting their early tracks from 1982/1983. Here it is available again as a deluxe gatefold LP adding a bonus 7″ with two songs from the early days of LA STRADA (LUNA side project) with liner notes by Belgrade underground post punk wizard Nikola Vitković. Incredibly influential darkwave/proto-goth that ranks among the best and most original ones of the golden era of post/punk in Yugoslavia. As a bonus, you’ll also find a download card with the entire album + a rare LUNA track not included on the vinyl release! Made in cooperation with Guranje S Litice, a unique museum of Balkan underground music…

GRČ “Sloboda narodu” LP (F.O.A.D. 088)

By popular demand, we’re glad to announce a new pressing of this highly acclaimed gem from the 80’s Yugoslavian underground!! GRČ formed in 1982 in the prolific punk/dark/new wave scene of Rijeka, Croatia. Their album “Sloboda narodu”, originally released in 1987 on cassette only, represents one of the most gloomy and hopeless expressions of negativity that any genre labeled as dark, death-rock, or post-punk has ever conceived. It exudes blood, secular darkness, and anguish in its purest form. Their musical approach is a solid blend of doom tinged post-industrial rock and uncompromising dark punk atmospheres. The incredible downtuned voice of their ominous frontman Zoff consolidates a feeling of solemn black decadence that goes hand in hand with wonderful lyrics, a desperate cry for freedom in a landscape of war, urban decay, and social oppression. Remastered from the original 1/4″ reels, packaged in a reverse board avana jacket with an 8-page booklet featuring rare photos, flyers and lyrics (also translated in English).
